Rhodium Plating

The description “white gold” is something of a misnomer. Gold is yellow in colour and is treated to produce what is called white gold through an electroplating process using Rhodium, giving it a highly reflective white surface. Rhodium in turn is a precious metal and a member of the platinum family. The electroplating process bonds Rhodium to the precious metal, most often yellow gold to create white gold which is similar in appearance to platinum.

This thin layer of plating will eventually wear away. Evidence of the plating wearing away is found in the look of the piece; the area without the plating will show the yellowish colour of the original precious metal. When you notice this change, please contact us to schedule an appointment to give you jewellery item some well deserved TLC.

We hope no harm ever comes to your treasured possessions but it’s important that your items are insured, just in case you ever need to make a claim.

At Ingalore Jewellers, we can arrange your valuation for you we will examine your jewellery and provide a written valuation that acts a legal document you can use for insurance.

Many jewellers charge a percentage of your jewellery’s value to provide a valuation, but we charge a simple fixed fee so you’ll know how much the service costs before you agree to it.

PLEASE NOTE: Tungsten and Ceramic rings can brake or chatter when dropped on a hard surface, the ring can’t be fixed and a new one has to be ordered. These rings can’t be sized bigger or smaller so please make an appointment to come in and get your correct ring sized measured.

Because these rings are so durable, you may wear it when you'd never consider wearing another rings. As a result, you may need to clean your ring. Here's how. Your Tungsten or Ceramic ring is made of the most durable material available for rings, also named Contemporary metals. As such, you don’t need to remove it at work or while doing chores, so it may pick up oil, dirt or other grime. Not to worry!

Removing oil or lotion

If you get oil or hand lotion on your ring, we recommend wiping it down with simple rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will break down the oil and reveal your ring's durable, beautiful finish.

Removing dirt

Daily activities may cause your ring to pick up some dirt. Cleaning your ring is as simple as leaving it on while you wash your hands with soap and water, or while you shampoo your hair in the shower. Of course, you can also take it off and rinse it with a little dish or hand soap and water.

Jewellery Cleaning and Care

Most jewellery can be cleaned at home but sometimes, a delicate item might require specialist cleaning to avoid damage. To help keep your jewellery in excellent condition, we recommend that you schedule a cleaning every year. It is also important to regularly check your jewellery for signs of damage or wear and tear. If you find any, get it fixed as soon as possible.
